SkateThis League 2 Months ago
So the points and medal system is all ready to go. Since this is a completely new thing I figured I would go into a little detail about it and maybe get some good ideas or suggestions to better the league.

What is the SkateThis League?
First and foremost I named the point system 'SkateThis League' for lack of a better term. Basically how the league will work is pretty simple. There will be numerous and various challenges daily, weekly, monthly etc. The challenges could range from things like COTW or other small video challenges, to things like writing a good (new) tutorial, editing a full length, getting so many views off your youtube video etc. The possibilities are endless.

What are the points?
You get points by completing the challenges in the League forum (under contests). Of course the points amount for challenges are based on their difficulty to complete. Obviously getting 10,000 views on your skate clip is much harder (or time consuming) than winning a COTW. So the points would be allocated differently. You can view your points on your profile, your forum stats bar and of course on the league summary.

What are the medals?
Of course for visual purposes as well as bragging rights, medals(badges) will be making their way back. Each medal earned will also come with a set amount of points. For instance getting the COTW Winner medal will also come with an 'x' amount of points as well. You can view your models both on your profile and your league summary page.

Do I have to participate?
The league is something completely voluntary, but I think it has great potential for keeping some of us busy in the down time of filming. Remember this is why we started COTW, for something to do. COTW started slow, but within a few weeks it was very popular and still is. You can take the league for what its worth, or not at all.

How do I participate?
If your signed up to SkateThis, your good to go. The league will be in it's own section in the forum so you can easily find challenges without interrupting the rest of the site. The points gained from completing various challenges will be used in more than one way and that will be discussed later. To complete a challenge follow the challenge's post. You may be required to reply back in the relative forum or send your 'answer' to the challenge to War via PM/Email.

How do I track my progress?
To view the league (points and medals) you can visit the league link in the top menu. This will bring you to the summary page where you can view everything from recent points or medals you have earned, your total lifetime points, current points, spent points etc. There is also a few links to the right where you can check out what medals are currently available (check back frequently more and more will be added often).

What are the points good for?
Though we have nothing set yet, there has been some good suggestions with what you can do with your accumulated points. Some thoughts are: Purchase front page slots for your videos, enter points-required contests, banner space to promote your team blog/page, etc. Im sure there are a number of you that have some other great ideas.

How often are there challenges?
Challenges will be at random. There could be one or multiple challenges a day or may skip a few days before a new one pops up. You can complete the challenges whenever you feel fit but some may have a time limit before the possible earned points for that challenge is greatly reduced.

Re:SkateThis League 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
last year, i was putting together a contest for some actual cash prizes, but my sites been down due to me not having my pc to work on it. however, i did have a video up on youtube with details. if the admin(s) were interested, i'd like the collaboration. i'd need some audio work and web design help to complete the promo. it'd be something to add to the league challenges and help out my magazine at the same time.

Hey xyulie, I got your email.

I think the create a park itself is a great idea for a contest. But I do not agree with the setup. A few quirks I have with it.

1. Entry fees. - I don't believe there should be entry fees. Money should be raised by donations or in exchange of product (I am currently working on this for a personal idea).

2. Your site(mag) gets a % of the pot? - I do not agree with this at all. As far as I can tell there should be no reason why your site/mag should take a cut. Whats the cut for? Coming up with the idea?

3. Contest = Profit - The general gist of your email came off to me (whether intentional or not) that your contest was soley to do two things. Bring awareness to your site/mag (which is a perfectly good thing), and 2, make your site/mag money by taking a percent of the 'entry pot'. It seems money driven, and I dont like that and it rubs me the wrong way.

Thanks for offering skatethis a piece of the entry pot, but even if I liked this idea I would of put skatethis's share back into the winners pot. Im not here to make money.

Please dont take this response the wrong way. I think the create a park idea is great. I just dont like the motives behind it. Nothing personal.

I have been planning up a skatethis related contest for cash/prizes but havnt had the time to iron out the details.
